Everybody talks about it, but what is SEO? SEO, short for Search Engine Optimization, is the practice used to improve the volume and quality of traffic to your website from non-paid, organic, search engine results. Using good SEO practices should bring your site to the top of Google and other search engines.
Do I need SEO for my website?
The answer to "What is SEO?" brings up the question whether you need it for your website. If you are like the most of the site owners and want people to find you online then yes, you need SEO. Without using best SEO practices, your site will not be visible to most users.
Let's say you bought our locksmith web design, how do you expect your potential clients to find you? The chances are that they will go to Google, Bing or Yahoo and search for "locksmith in ...". If you are not on the first page, you will hardly get any visits. Unless you are using paid ads and your business shows in paid results, to show high in search results, you need SEO.
Can search engines see my site without SEO?
The Internet is complex and very competitive, and although search engines became very smart, they need help. Google and other major search engines are constantly improving and trying to deliver quality search results to the users. To achieve that, they use sophisticated algorithms to rank websites. The ranking is based on a large number of criteria. Data and quality metrics they get from the pages (key words, content, images, and so forth), links leading to your domain (backlinks), user interaction on the site, social mentions (like Facebook posts), load speed, domain age and authority are just some. So, yes - search engines will most likely see your website without SEO, but it will be ranked poorly and won't do you much good.
Can I do SEO for my website?
SEO, same as website design, is not rocket science, but it takes time and, like anything else, requires knowledge. If you have the willingness to learn, and plenty of time, you certainly can do it. Almost anything about SEO can be found for free on the web.
The problem is that for most small business owners SEO will consume way too much time, and it is far more cost-effective to use affordable SEO services. Regardless, it is always a good idea to at least understand basic concepts.
What is SEO most important part
We will not go with an in-depth explanation for each factor in this article, because of its complexity we will do that in separate articles. There are two major components of SEO, on-page SEO, and off-page SEO. We will just list what each includes:
- On-Page SEO - Quality content, load speed, responsiveness (mobile friendliness), URL structure, page metadata, links structure.
- Off-Page SEO - Link building, social media presence, reviews, directory submission, NAP (Name, Address, Phone) consistency.
The list of SEO factors does not end here. These are just (some) of most important ones that should help most businesses to rank high in search results.
How much small business SEO cost?
As you can't tell how much does a website cost without knowing the specifics, there is no definite answer to SEO costs as well. Price for SEO can range from a (few) hundred to a few thousand per month. Once you get the results you wanted, SEO campaign will be paused, but it does not mean you bought your place on the first page of Google. If you start losing your rankings, additional SEO efforts will be a necessity.
Whether you do it yourself or hire someone to do it, it will cost you either time or money. It is up to you to figure out what best suits you.
At Really Tested, we are not big fans of overpriced SEO, and we believe that small business do not need expensive SEO to see good, or even great, results. We are focused on affordable SEO packages that work well for most small businesses with a price range from $200 to $400 monthly for six months.
